Refund & Return Policy

At Backcountry Sportsman, we stand behind the quality of the products we sell. Because we offer both standard-sized items and large or heavy products that require freight shipping, return eligibility and processes may vary by product type. Please review this policy carefully before initiating a return.
1. Return Window
Eligible items may be returned within 30 days of delivery.
Return requests submitted after 30 days will not be accepted.
2. Eligibility for Returns
To qualify for a return, items must be:

Unused, uninstalled, and in original condition

In original packaging with all components included

Accompanied by proof of purchase (order confirmation or receipt)
Non-Returnable / Final Sale Items
The following items are not eligible for return:

Clearance or final sale items

Gift cards
-
Custom, personalized, or made-to-order products

Used, installed, or damaged items (unless defective upon arrival)
3. Oversized & Freight-Shipped Items (Important)
Certain products—such as kayaks, canoes, rooftop tents, rigid boards, and other oversized or heavy equipment—are shipped via freight delivery.
Freight return conditions:

Freight items are not eligible for free return shipping

Customer is responsible for all return freight costs, including pickup, palletization, and carrier fees

Original freight shipping charges are non-refundable

Some freight items may be non-returnable once shipped due to size, handling, or supplier restrictions (this will be noted on the product page when applicable)
Freight Damage Policy
If a freight item arrives damaged:

Damage must be noted on the delivery receipt at time of delivery

You must notify us within 48 hours of delivery

Photos of the damage and packaging are required
Failure to document damage at delivery may void eligibility for a freight damage claim.
4. How to Initiate a Return
All returns require authorization.

If approved, we will issue a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and provide return instructions.
Items returned without an approved RMA may be refused and returned to the sender.
We strongly recommend using a trackable shipping method. Backcountry Sportsman is not responsible for items lost or damaged in return transit.
5. Return Shipping Costs

Customers are responsible for all return shipping costs

This includes freight shipping, where applicable
If a return is due to our error (incorrect item shipped or confirmed defective item upon arrival), we will:

Cover return shipping costs or

Provide a prepaid return label when appropriate
6. Refund Process

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method

Refunds are processed within 5–7 business days after the returned item is received and inspected

Original shipping and freight charges are non-refundable, unless the return is due to our error
7. Exchanges
We do not offer direct exchanges.
To exchange an item:

Complete the return process for the original item (if eligible)

Place a new order for the replacement item
